Festal Evensong for the Platinum Jubilee of
the Accesion of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
on 06 February 1952
On Sunday 06 February 2022 a service of Festal Evensong was held in the Chapel
Royal of St Peter ad Vincula to celebrate the 70th (Platinum) Anniversary of the
Accession of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to the throne on that date in 1952.
A large congregation heard pieces such as Parry's 'I was glad' and
Vaughan Williams's 'O clap your hands', sung at Her Majesty's Coronation.
The sermon by the Sub-Dean of the Chapels Royal, Canon Paul Wright,
recalled Her Majesty's pledge of service to her people
and the Christian faith which has shaped her life and work.
Following the service, during which the Chapel was bathed in winter sunshine,
the congregation toasted Her Majesty, wishing her health and happiness.
The photographs below give some idea of the occasion.
