New Chapel Music Friends Scheme
The Chapels Royal of St Peter ad Vincula and St John the Evangelist
Music is integral to the rich liturgy at the Chapels Royal, where worship and music are enhanced by a professional choir of 12 singers, the organist and the Master of Music. It costs £90,000 per annum to maintain this music, renowned and respected well beyond the confines of the Tower. Although the Chapels of St. Peter ad Vincula and St. John the Evangelist are part of the Historic Royal Palaces, they have to support themselves in terms of running costs. These costs are not funded by HRP or the Privy Purse. The endowment fund that pays for the choir is currently under pressure from depreciating returns and difficult market conditions. We wish to future-proof this fund as far as possible, enabling us to continue to support the music programme at the Tower. In order to achieve this goal we have created the Chapel Music Friends community, which is being launched officially on Wednesday 15th May with a musical event and reception in the Chapel Royal of St. Peter ad Vincula. We invite you to support our efforts by joining the Chapel Music Friends and to enjoy the benefits of becoming part of the musical community of the Tower of London’s Chapels Royal at our official launch event on 15 May 2019. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP as places are limited and people attending must have their names on the guest and security lists ahead of time. Please RSVP to TowerOfLondonChapelAdministrator@hrp.org.uk. If you are unable to attend the launch event, you can still benefit from the Chapel Music Friends sponsorship and find out more about the Chapels Royal here. You can start your subscription immediately online here or download a leaflet with the application form here. We very much hope that you will wish to support the tradition of musical excellence at the Tower and look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards, The Chapel Music Friends Committee.
