Puer Natus est : A boy is born

Tudor music in a Tudor Chapel: a Tudor celebration of Advent and Christmas, with music by Thomas Tallis, interspersed with readings by David Suchet. The performance included some hauntingly beautiful plainchant as well as some of Tallis’ most expressive music including Videte miraculum and his rich and opulent 7-part mass Puer natus est.
The Odyssean Ensemble is a flexible group of singers brought together by Colm Carey to explore, through innovative projects and collaborations, the notion of music being a journey – a journey that challenges the listener and stimulates the mind, body and senses. The Odyssean Ensemble embarked on its maiden voyage as part of Spitalfields Winter Festival 2014, and has performed in the Festival each year since then, most recently opening the 2016 Summer Festival with an acclaimed performance of William Byrd’s Great Service.
..vividly conjured up the period, while profiling the Odyssean’s attention to detail. Nothing was less than meticulously blended. Nothing was over-boiled. Directed by its founder Colm Carey, the ensemble brought an understated lyricism to the most flamboyant works...” Financial Times.
