Peter Parker

It is with enormous sadness and regret that we record that Peter Parker TD died on 25 August 2017.

Peter Parker TD was a former Master of the Worshipful Company of Actuaries, 1990-91, and a Fellow and sometime Vice-President of the Institute of Actuaries. Formerly Chairman of Philips and Drew International Limited, he had a long and distinguished career as an actuary.

He was a member of the Archbishops’ Review on Bishops’ Needs and Resources which in 2001 produced the major report Resourcing Bishops. He worshipped at the Chapels Royal, HM Tower of London for some 40 years  and for the last 20 he was a member of the Chapel Council, where he had a special interest in investments.

He would always sing the Psalms along with the choir, and knew them by heart.  His knowledge and love of the Book of Common Prayer were legendary.  He was also a generous benefactor to both the Chapel and to its Choral Foundation. He was steeped in Anglican church music as a schoolboy and maintained his devotion to it throughout his life. Peter Parker was devoted to the Chapel and to the Christian life which it embodies and of which he was a shining example.

He had a lifelong interest in music more generally. He was a trustee of the Music Therapy Foundation and also of the Sidney Perry Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing grants to needy students.

His wife Janet and his son Tom predeceased him.  He is survived by his children Lucy and Daniel and his grandchildren Noah, Francis, Jacob, Minerva, Tom, Ry and Calla.

May he rest in peace.
